Allow me to be perfectly honest for one moment. If the above image doesn’t get you hyped up, there’s a very good chance you are perusing the wrong ethnic focused music blog. Two words: Mountain Brothers. The photo above makes perfect sense considering we have new music coming from the recently reunited trio along the way. And now, more than ever, am I excited to hear what they have in store for us.

Girls Generation

The good folks at KoreAm tweeted the above picture of Girls Generation early today, and though it’s not exactly Asian-American music related, I thought it was relevant enough to post. After all, the fembots group did drop a Teddy Riley produced single in the states (though it failed to chart), and two of their members are from the US… so it’s not completely unrelated right? OK sure, the picture is from a South Korean publication, and yes, the ladies are in the official South Korean 2012 Olympic uniform… but hey, I don’t need to explain myself to you! There are 18 9 great reasons to post the picture as a Snapshot feature. And that’s that. Snoop agrees with me. It’s the cheerleader effect to the max.

Emmalyn Estrada and her big sis Elise are each making in-roads into the industry via separate paths, but it’s heartwarming to see that family is still important to them. The two of them pose for this photo that Elise posted to her Facebook fan page, with the caption “Sister bear and I by the pool yesterday ♥”. While we fully support and respect their choice to make it as solo artists, we hope to hear a collab between the siblings in the near future too.

If you keep up with West Coast Hip-Hop artists Bambu & Rocky Rivera on even the most casual of levels, you should know that the two are something of a power couple in the underground rap scene on that side of the country. But not only do they share their love for the art and for each other, but they also share it for their son – Khalil Bayani. Rocky posted this image to instagram recently and I found it to be an awesome and personal (if grainy) portrait of the family. I’m sure it ain’t perfect, but it’s an awesome love that they all share.

EDM heads and clubbing regulars, take notice cause Steve Aoki has landed himself on the cover of the latest (October 2012) issue of Mixmag. The artist gets 10 pages dedicated to his feature interview where they cover the following:

Steve Aoki: This month, dance music phenomenon Steve Aoki adorns our cover, edits a ten-page section of the magazine and mixes the fantastic cover CD. He tells us how he took Dim Mak from a cottage industry to one of the world’s most successful independent labels and we get to the bottom of that rider.

Psy – Gangnam Style

Yep. This just happened. International PHENOMENON, Psy, has found himself on the cover of one of the most influential music publications in the world – Billboard Magazine. This is, of course, due to the unprecedented and unexpected success of his single, “Gangnam Style”. Being a music industry periodical, the article features heavily on Psy’s career in the past few months and how Scooter Braun has come into the picture and steered this ship in American waters. It’s a fascinating read. Congrats to Psy!

This isn’t the most recent picture we have to share, but we came across it not too long ago and thought it was worth posting up. Last Spring, Japanese pop star, Jin Akanishi, released his debut US album - Japonicana. In support of the project, he went on a short tour and had Paperdoll open up for him at his NY stop. The picture above was tweeted by Paperdoll, showing everyone behind the scenes at the show. Gotta love that international support.

It’s definitely a new year with new music and that means new collabs. Singer Joseph Vincent and emcee Toestah both twitter-ed a sneak peak on their feature on MC Jin’s new up and coming collab track, “Feel Good.” J.V. and Toestah are both seen on location of the music video and reveal that the new track will drop Feb. 7th. Things are quiet on MC Jin’s twitter but we’re sure we’ll hear more about the track very soon.

So these pictures are a little over a year old, but we came across them again recently and thought they were still very much worth sharing. These images are from Jason Min & Carol’s engagement shoot in California by photographer Jon Kim. Jason & Carol were wed last Spring after she accepted his memorable proposal via music video back in 2011. Earlier this summer, Clara C shared the exciting news that she had been proposed to by her beau, Dan Fisher. Well as you can imagine, the wedding preparations have begun and they’ve already sent out the invites to their friends and family. (Wait, you didn’t get one either? Sad face…) Anyhow, they’ve decided to share a portion of the invite with the rest of the world, and it’s the following “Wedding Trailer” that announces their special day while riffing on some popular film and pop culture. Gotta appreciate their sense of humor and most of all, their love!

Snapshot: Who Got Married This Past Weekend? Kina Grannis Did

We gotta admit, this bit of news caught us by surprise. Word/rumor began trickling out a couple days ago that Kina Grannis had gotten married to Jesse Epstein (otherwise known as Imaginary Friend). We knew they were working and had toured together but we never knew they were dating! I guess we just weren’t paying close enough attention.

Our spidey sense first began tingling when we saw this status update on facebook.

And then, she posted up this picture with the hashtag of #imaginarygroom:

As if it wasn’t enough confirmation, Kina then shared the following image:

Lastly, Jesse posted this image.

So I don’t now what further evidence you need. It looks pretty definitive that Ms Grannis is now Mrs Epstein. I know a lot of you guys are bummed, but in the end, I’m sure we’re all incredibly happy for the newlyweds. If not, maybe you can relate to this.

The Expanding Family

First comes love, then comes marriage, then….?

Yep. Baby carriage time. Sonia of Jayesslee has announced that she and her husband Andy are expecting a baby boy! They posted an image up of their sonogram with the news that baby Jayden is due in January. What a great way to start off 2014! Life moves fast sometimes, huh? Congratulations to the happy couple and their growing family!

The above image has been circulating social media channels like Facebook and Instagram, with some of Hip-Hop’s finest all in one room and chilling on a couch together. From Left to Right you got J-Splif & Kev Nish (FM), Dumbfoundead AKA Parker, TOKiMONSTA, Prohgress & DJ Virman (FM). I’m not completely sure why or for what they are all together for, but I’m certainly not complaining. Hopefully this means we can expect something extra crispy to come down the line soon. This is like a who’s who collection of LA Asian-American artists. What do they have in store for us!?

Aziatix x Toyota Wallpaper

Back towards the end of last year, we shared with you the new Aziatix music video for “Baby, Let’s Go“. We noted back then that it was actually part of a Toyota Corolla advertisement campaign, explaining why the vehicle had such a prominent presence in the video. Well, the corporate partnership is still going strong and there is also a wallpaper out for you to download, if you were so inclined. I’m not sure if any of you are interested in turning your desktop into a digital billboard but we thought it was noteworthy for the branding implications for the R&B group. Let’s hope YMCMB has big plans for the trio this year! You can download the wallpaper here.
